Below is a copy of my liability waiver/disease disclosure. These documents go over some of the more common zoonosis diseases rats can carry, be exposed to, or pass to humans. They also discuss signs/symptoms as well as proper hygiene when handling your ratties. Any rats (or animals in general) that leave my care are not carrying these issues to the best of my knowledge. I do annual health panels and an 8 week breeding hiatus during the winters. These are both in place to catch or burn out any illnesses that may have been picked up at some point during the year. I am strict about where I source my rats from (breeders that also test or have had no prior exposure to known illness) to avoid any unwanted issues being spread to my own colonies. This information is not meant to scare, but to educate! Contracting something from your rats is very unlikely. However, like any animal, they all have some sort of health risk, so be sure to practice proper hygiene and handling!
